Hampton Amarillo TX Shooting Obituary Death,
A devastating tragedy occurred in Amarillo, Texas, when 15-year-old Brynnlee Hampton, a high school student, was fatally shot on New Year’s Day. Authorities report that the shooting took place inside a vehicle after one of the teens involved was reportedly playing with a firearm. As a result, one juvenile has been charged with manslaughter, and another faces charges of evidence tampering.
A visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. to 6:30 P.M. on Monday, January 5, 2026, at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at Hillside Christian Church. The arrangements are being handled by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors in Amarillo.
Brynnlee was born on February 18, 2010, in Childress, Texas, to Emmalee Dawn Melton and Justin Paul Hampton. She was a sophomore at Tascosa High School, where she excelled in volleyball and was an active member of the National Honor Society. Brynnlee also played competitive volleyball for AEV Volleyball. Her strong faith was central to her life, and she spent time each day journaling and reflecting. She often sent Bible verses to her family as a way of offering encouragement and love. Her Bible, marked with highlights and notes, was a testament to the faith that guided her. Known for her kind and compassionate spirit, Brynnlee touched the hearts of everyone who knew her. She will be deeply missed by all who loved her.
Brynnlee is survived by her parents, Emmalee and Jess Yap of Amarillo; Justin Hampton and Stephanie Arbogast; her grandparents, Gordon and Cindy Melton, Lonnie and Gerelene Hurd, Annie Hampton, Aaron Lopez, and Thess Yap; great-grandparents Elvira Yap, Pina Lopez, and Doris Melton; as well as her brothers, Preston Yap and Dawson Yap.
